Seawall Construction West Busselton
Bulk earthworks, and seawall construction, and bulk material supply and delivery
Project Overview
Leeuwin Civil constructed three seawalls for the City of Busselton along the West Busselton coastline between 2019 and 2022. The scope included beach re-nourishment, and protection of the existing exposed West Busselton foreshore through construction of seawall protection, and independent groynes.
Before seawall protection construction could commence, the existing exposed foreshore had to be trimmed. Once this was completed the geofabric/filter was placed along the new formation. The geofabric was then covered with a limestone filter rock, followed by 1t ironstone armour. The limestone and ironstone armour were supplied direct from Leeuwin Civil's own bulk material extraction pits.
Finally, 3t granite armour was placed on the 1t armour to complete the new seawall. The 3t granite armour was imported from Collie Hill by Leeuwin Civil haulage trucks. This material was stockpiled at a nearby City of Busselton facility, before being carted in for construction, as required.
Surveying of levels and slopes, and As Constructed works were all performed under the precision guidance of Leeuwin Civil's machine control system. Also, prior to placing the toe rock, all lines and levels were validated and approved by the marine engineers.
