Casuarina Drive Redevelopment Program
Road and parking upgrade, service corridor, and major transformer upgrade
Project Overview
The Casuarina Drive Redevelopment Program is a package of works being delivered under the Transforming Bunbury's Waterfront $89.1 million State Government initiative. The project is revitalising the Bunbury region’s shoreline to boost the marine and tourism industries, and is being delivered in partnership with South West Development Commission, Department of Transport, and City of Bunbury.
Leeuwin Civil was engaged to deliver Scope 2 of the works. Scope 2 incorporated civil works including road, parking and a major services upgrade along Casuarina Drive - the access road for this busy working port. During the works, Leeuwin Civil was also awarded an additional scope to construct a 300-metre limestone coastal protection wall to separate the road and marine environment.
Key Project Features:
- A complex staged road upgrade to Casuarina Drive under busy live traffic conditions, managed under stringent safety and traffic management plans.
- Location and mapping of existing unknown services using ground penetrating radar.
- Removal of redundant old pipes and rock encountered along the service corridor alignment to enable construction.
- Construction of a single services corridor along Casuarina Drive incorporating the use of trenchless technology.
- Upgrade and installation of multiple services into the newly constructed services corridor.
- A complex LV/HV power upgrade involving connecting new equipment to an existing 1960’s transformer.
- Installation of a new 250 mm water pipeline and connection to the mains supply.
- Other extensive gas and communications conduit installations.
- 300 m of limestone wall construction alongside Casuarina Drive.
- Complex stakeholder engagement with Southern Ports and service providers including provision of water trucks to provide the port with a continuous water supply during mains connection.
