Boallia road Bridge replacement

Project Overview

Leeuwin Civil was engaged by Water Corporation to replace a 50-year-old road bridge (MRWA Bridge No. 3386) in the City of Busselton, located on Boallia Road, between Rendezvous Road and Franklin Road (a major drain location incorporating several paddocks). The bridge was required to keep Boallia Road free from flooding during the wet winter months due to an overtopping upstream inlet.

Works comprised removal and disposal of the exiting old bridge structure and construction of the new longer-term RCBC (reinforced concrete box culvert) bridge structure. The new construction involved constructing the base slab and top slab through insitu pours. New bridge approaches were also raised higher to prevent future overtopping, and extensive stone pitching added for batter protection. New guardrails and asphalting were also installed to MRWA standards.

Dewatering was also required for the foundations. This was undertaken in-house using Leeuwin Civil's expertise and specialist dewatering equipment. Leeuwin Civil’s dewatering capability also helped streamline the process by removing any potential downtime during the construction program caused by the ingress of water onto the project.
